Madison's Touched Twice Clinics

Madison's Touched Twice Clinics have been held August 14, 2004; January 29th, 2005; August 20, 2005; October 13, 2007; October 18, 2008; and March 7, 2009. The first clinics were held at Evangel Life Center, 4402 Femrite Drive. Since 2008 the clinics have been held at Calvary Gospel Church 5301 Commercial Ave. The clinics utilized volunteers from a large number of Madison area churches. These zero-budget events rely on community volunteers to provide medical treatment, companionship, and other assistance to needy area residents who come for services.

Volunteers are needed for each Clinic to provide:

Most volunteers work the entire Clinic, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (we see clients from 10:00 to 3:00), but you can also work either morning or afternoon. Of course, we also need help with planning, recruiting volunteers, and Clinic setup and cleanup. We can also always use prayer support. Training is provided for advocates.

Volunteer medical professionals are needed to provide services. However, hundreds of average people are also needed to be Advocates (companions) for the clients and to share their faith through a ministry of helps. Each client needs an Advocate. To volunteer or get more information, contact Touched Twice Project Coordinator Scotia Leonardson by email or call 608-249-6445, extension 3010.

Volunteers from over a dozen churches participated in Madison's first Touched Twice Clinic, August 14th, 2004. A news conference was held on August 2nd to announce The Clinic to Madison media, including The Capital Times ( archived version ). An in-depth report on the first Madison clinic is at www.radioscribe.com/CrossTownMadison.htm. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel also carried a news item on The Clinic. Approximately 300 people showed up for services at the August 14th Clinic, they were served by about 200 volunteers.

In a July 26, 2004, editorial The Wisconsin State Journal reported that state officials estimate at least 32,000 uninsured individuals live in Dane County. Madison's churches are using this volunteer-based, zero-budget approach to do something for that population. The Touched Twice Clinic has occurred in several other Wisconsin cities. For example, on May 1, 2004, in Appleton, 23 churches connected 425 volunteers with 363 needy people.

Publicity posters were prepared to download and print. There was an English version, Spanish version and Hmong version. (To read pdf files you'll need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader, if you don't already have it.)
